AFTER five years and countless accolades, the ladies of Litchfield Penitentiary are finally getting out of jail — but fans won’t be happy about it.
Orange Is the New Black will be ending after its seventh season, which will air on Netflix in 2019.
The surprise announcement was made in a video posted on Orange Is the New Black’s Twitter page.
“After seven seasons, it’s time to be released from prison,” series showrunner Jenji Kohan told Variety.
“I will miss all the badass ladies of Litchfield and the incredible crew we’ve worked with. My heart is orange but fade to black.”

OITNB was Netflix’s third original series and premiered on the streaming giant in 2013 to almost instant acclaim.
In 2016 the series was renewed for three more seasons — a highly unusual move in the fickle world of television.
The popularity of OITNB saw its stars Samira Wiley, Taylor Schilling, Laverne Cox and Laura Prepon propelled to the Hollywood A-list and launched Ruby Rose’s acting career in the United States.
